The 22-year old guard has been included in the 2016-2017 All-VTB Youth League Team. In 2016-2017 season Kurkin became the VTB Youth League most efficient player (18.2) and the best "stealer" (2.6 avg. per game). He also became the second rebounder of the league gaining 7.6 rebounds per game. The Avtodor guard had a record on the largest number of steals in a game as he made 9 steals twice during the season. In the upcoming year Kurkin will continue to wear number 55 on his playing uniform in the senior team.

“When I saw Kurkin for the first time in Saratov I really thought we might have a player here. Because even if he never used his full speed or his full strength he controlled the game. Of course it was a youth league game but I liked his way to be on the court. Now he needs to work harder like every player but he should realize that he is a man who represents the Saratov region also and the club which gives him a chance to perform at the highest level. I am expecting a big improvement from Kurkin and I am sure he will not disappoint us.”
