Maxim Sheleketo Joins Avtodor

Avtodor enhanced its front court by adding the 30-year old power forward Maxim SHELEKETO (204 cm, 104 kg) to their roster for the 2017–2018 season. He is going to wear number 45 on his playing uniform.

Sheleketo, a native of Petrovsk (Saratov region), has a wide basketball experience behind his back as he has played for VEF Riga, Lokomotiv Rostov, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, UNICS Kazan and BC Khimki Moscow region. He won the EuroCup twice (in 2013 and 2015) and became the VTB United League runner-up for two times as well in the same years while competing for Lokomotiv Kuban and BC Khimki. In the 2013–2014 season, the Avtodor newcomer reached the EuroCup gold medal game and triumphed in the Russian Cup with UNICS. He also advanced to the 2011 FIBA EuroChallenge final and won the Russian Championship bronze medal a year later while playing for Lokomotiv Kuban.

Last season Sheleketo led Sakhalin to reach the Russian Cup gold medal game. The forward averaged 15.4 points (40% three-pointers), 6.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocked shots for 31:47 minutes played in 30 games of the Russian Superleague First Division and Russian Cup. Remember that Dramir Zibirov, Sheleketo’s former teammate in Sakhalin, has joined Avtodor earlier.

Andrea MAZZON
Avtodor head coach:

“Maxim really wants to prove himself and everybody that he still belongs to VTB League. Sheleketo will help the team with experience and work ethic. He's able to open the court for the 3-point shots and at the same time able to run early in fast breaks really well. We now have 3 really solid and efficient Russian bigs and we are very happy about this.”
