First time Alexander was in Avtodor in the age of 16 and played here from 2006 to 2010 winning the Russian Superleague B Championship in the 2008-2009 season.

Karpukhin came back in Avtodor in December 2016. He played 7 games in the VTB United League last season recording 1.6 points and 0.7 rebounds for 6 minutes. Additionally he spent 4 games for the youth team of Avtodor where he averaged 17.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals for 30 minutes.
